Hi, I'm Joe
I'm a genealogist and historical researcher, and I make documentaries about people history didn't think were worth remembering. A twelve-year-old sent away for five years over a tobacco pouch. A woman whose photograph was sent to every pub in Birmingham. Dead ordinary, by every official measure.
Each video rebuilds one of those lives from the records they left behind, and every source is published here. Because every ancestor, no matter how ordinary they seemed, has a story worth telling.

Take the Stories With You
Dead Ordinary is a podcast too: the same lives from the channel, to listen to wherever you are. Follow on Spotify and you'll never miss an episode.

The people in my videos left almost nothing behind, and much of what survives has never been digitised. Your support pays for me to reach those records, so their stories don’t stop where the internet does. Thank you - Joe
